“When the Governor Fixes the Roads, He’s Taking Care of Us” – Comrade Jeff Ikenga Eze

The State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Imo State Council, Comrade Jeff Ikenga Eze, has praised Governor Hope Uzodimma for his massive investments in road infrastructure across Imo State, describing them as life-changing for transport workers and road users alike.
Comrade Eze, accompanied by his executive council and several branch chairmen, made the remarks during the Governor’s State of the State address at the Imo State House of Assembly, where he affirmed the union’s solidarity with the current administration.
> “As transport workers, the road is our office. It is where we earn our living, and it sustains our daily lives. So when the governor fixes the roads, he’s directly taking care of us,” Eze stated.
He applauded the governor’s efforts in both urban and rural road development, citing completed and ongoing projects across the state, including the dual carriageways, solar-powered streetlights, and swift execution of projects even during the rainy season — which many had doubted possible.
> “Look at Owerri city today — it’s cleaner, safer, and more motorable. Otamiri Road, Dick Tiger Road, and others are now completed with solar lighting. These things speak for themselves,” he said.
Comrade Eze emphasized that the union’s primary concern is the welfare of its members, and road infrastructure remains central to that. He added that while others may focus on different sectors, road transport workers live and work on the roads, making their condition a top priority.
He further reiterated the governor’s ongoing efforts in restoring electricity through the urash Electricity Project, calling it another milestone initiative that would boost economic activity across the state.
> “We know this governor is doing everything possible to bring the electricity project on board, and once it lands, it will make a huge difference for Imo residents,” he said.
On governance, Comrade Eze appealed to Imolites to support the governor wholeheartedly:
> “To whom much is given, much is expected. The governor has done his part, and now it’s time for us to reciprocate by giving him our full support. His concern is sustaining the legacies he has built, and that should be our collective focus.”
Turning to the NURTW itself, Comrade Eze spoke passionately about the unity and peace he has restored within the union since assuming office.
> “Before I came on board, the union was fractured by multiple factions and mistrust. But today, we are one. No more internal hostility. No more suspicion. We’ve built a family out of what was once a divided house,” he revealed.
He concluded by announcing that the union would soon unveil a major security-related project designed to support the state’s safety architecture. He hinted that the press would be invited to cover the initiative within the next two weeks.
> “We are stepping into security support for the state, and it's a big one. Give us 10 to 15 days, and the media will hear from us. The NURTW is not just about transport anymore — we are part of the solution.”
Comrade Eze’s address adds to the growing list of endorsements from stakeholders across the state, praising the governor’s developmental strides and calling for sustained public support to consolidate the gains made so far.
