Members of Alaike Assembly in Umualoma Ideato North have passed a vote of no confidence on the outgoing executive following prolonged demands for accountability and stewardship concerning the administration of the affairs of the community.
The development followed a series of deliberations during which members reportedly demanded explanations from the executive on issues concerning the management of community resources, and finances.
According to information gathered, the demands for accountability were repeatedly presented to the executive, but members said their concerns were not satisfactorily addressed. After several deliberations, the matter was put to a vote, resulting in a majority decision in favour of a vote of no confidence in the executive.
The decision reportedly generated tension at the meeting, with members of the outgoing executive leaving their seats in anger following the outcome of the vote.
Interim Executive Installed
Following the vote, an interim leadership was constituted to oversee the affairs of Aleike pending further decisions by the community.
The newly installed interim members are:

Chinedu Nnokwute — Vice Chairman, Home
Innocent Irechukwu — Vice Chairman, Home
Chidozie Ogbu — General Secretary
Obi Ebuka — Assistant Secretary
Ikechukwu Ogbu — Financial Secretary
Osita Obi — Treasurer
Chekwube Kuremeh — Provost I
Uchenna Dail — Provost II
Interim Chairman Promises New Direction
In his acceptance speech, the newly appointed General Chairman, Chukwunonso Okparaeke, expressed appreciation to members of the community for the confidence reposed in the interim administration.
Okparaeke promised to operate an administration that would carry every member along and work collectively towards building what he described as a better and more united Alaike.
He called for cooperation, unity and transparency among members, stressing that the new leadership would focus on restoring confidence in the administration of community affairs.
The interim chairman also pledged that his administration would pursue the recovery of what he described as lost community landed properties and funds allegedly embezzled under the past executive.
He said the interim administration would examine the records and circumstances surrounding such properties and finances, with a view to recovering community assets where wrongdoing is established.
The development has therefore placed the new interim administration at the centre of expectations from members who are demanding greater accountability, transparency and responsible stewardship.
As the interim leadership begins its assignment, attention is expected to focus on how it handles the allegations surrounding the previous administration, the recovery of community assets and the restoration of unity among members.
