…As The Onion Newspaper Celebrates 6th Anniversary, Launches Chioma Njoku Charity Foundation

The Executive Chairman of Isiala Mbano Local Government Area, Evang. Chika Okoroike, has dedicated his emergence as the Best Chairman of the Year 2025 to the councillors of the council area, describing the recognition as a motivation to deepen his commitment to quality leadership and improved service delivery.
Okoroike made the remark on Saturday, August 1, during the sixth anniversary celebration of The Onion Newspaper and the unveiling of the Lolo Chioma Bright Njoku Charity Foundation, held at Rockview Hotel, Owerri.
Receiving the award, the council chairman expressed gratitude to the organisers, noting that the honour would encourage his administration to sustain its developmental efforts and continue implementing programmes that positively impact the lives of the people of Isiala Mbano.
He commended the councillors of Isiala Mbano Local Government Area for their partnership, describing their cooperation, dedication and support as critical factors behind the achievements recorded by his administration.
The event was chaired by His Royal Majesty, Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanweh, Obi Gbogbo of Ihim Autonomous Community, who was represented by the Commissioner representing Imo State on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and former member of the Imo State House of Assembly for Ehime Mbano State Constituency, Barr. Ifeanyi Agwu, PhD.
Representing the royal father, Agwu praised journalists in Imo State for their professionalism and contributions to society, while commending The Onion Newspaper for recognising individuals whose efforts have positively influenced their communities.
He congratulated the newspaper on attaining its sixth anniversary, describing its growth as commendable despite the economic difficulties affecting the media industry. He called on well-meaning individuals and organisations to continue supporting the publication.
Earlier, the Editor of The Onion Newspaper, Hon. Dr. Basil Ekweke, welcomed guests and appreciated readers, partners and supporters whose encouragement have contributed to the newspaper’s sustainability over the years.
A major highlight of the celebration was the posthumous honour bestowed on the late Mrs. Chioma Njoku, founder and publisher of The Onion Newspaper, in recognition of her dedication to ethical journalism, humanitarian service and community development.
The unveiling of the Lolo Chioma Bright Njoku Charity Foundation formed the climax of the event. The foundation, established to preserve her legacy of compassion and selflessness, will focus on humanitarian interventions and support for vulnerable members of society.
Guests at the occasion described the initiative as a worthy tribute to the late publisher, expressing optimism that it would continue to promote her values of kindness, service and social responsibility.
The Publisher of Nigerian Horn Newspaper and husband of the late Lolo Chioma Njoku, Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku, thanked individuals and organisations that have continued to support her vision and legacy, assuring that efforts would be sustained to keep her contributions to journalism and humanity alive.
