FedPoly Nekede Suspends Facilitator Over Student Assault, Rector Advocates for Ethical Conduct
The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, has suspended a facilitator, Mr. Okoroafor Ifeanyichukwu, for allegedly assaulting a student. The incident, which was captured in a viral video, sparked widespread outrage and prompted swift action from the institution
According to a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Dr. Ikeh Anayo I., the facilitator was not a staff member of the polytechnic but rather a part-time facilitator at the Technical and Entrepreneurship Development Centre (TEDC). The management condemned the facilitator's actions and suspended him from the institution until further notice .
The Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, Dr. Basilia Igbokwe, has also weighed in on the incident, emphasizing the importance of ethical conduct among staff members. In a statement, Dr. Igbokwe called on staff to uphold professionalism and empathy in their interactions with students, stressing that educators have a sacred responsibility to nurture and inspire their students, not intimidate or coerce them .
