  By Ella Michaels

In a proactive move to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process, the Imo State Police Command has implemented comprehensive security measures for the upcoming local government council elections scheduled for September 21, 2024 ¹. Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, emphasized the importance of maintaining public safety and order during this critical period.

To achieve this goal, the police have put in place several key measures:

Restriction on Vehicular Movement_: A curfew will be enforced from 00:00 to 18:00 hours on election day, allowing only essential services such as medical practitioners, fire services, authorized media, and accredited electoral observers to operate ¹.
Prohibition on Armed Security Operatives_: Armed security personnel are barred from accompanying VIPs to polling units to maintain fairness and prevent any potential disruptions ¹.
Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers_: These officials will oversee security within their respective jurisdictions to prevent any breaches

CP Danjuma urged all political actors to adhere to regulations set by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) and encouraged voters to participate actively, assuring them that their safety remains a top priority ¹. The Commissioner of Police reiterated that any attempts to disrupt the electoral process will be met with decisive action, reaffirming the commitment of the Imo State Police Command to uphold public peace and ensure a smooth election day

By taking these proactive measures, the Imo State Police Command demonstrates its dedication to ensuring a secure and transparent electoral process, allowing citizens to exercise their right to vote without fear or intimidation.
