A recent statement by top APC member Adams Oshiomhole has ignited a firestorm of controversy, targeting Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki and his wife, Betsy Obaseki, over their inability to have children. Oshiomhole's comments came in response to Betsy Obaseki's remarks about the marital status of gubernatorial candidates, which he deemed  hypocritical given the couple's own childlessness.

Oshiomhole emphasized that the APC candidate, Monday Okpebholo, has children, unlike the Obasekis, who have not even adopted any children despite their advanced age. He further highlighted the achievements of Okpebholo's children as a stark contrast to the Obasekis' situation. This remark has intensified the political discourse ahead of the upcoming election, with many criticizing Oshiomhole's comments as insensitive and unnecessary.

The controversy has raised questions about the relevance of a public figure's personal life to their ability to govern. While some argue that a leader's personal life can reflect their character and values, others see Oshiomhole's comments as a desperate attempt to discredit Governor Obaseki ahead of the election.
