The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed allegations that its national leader, Peter Obi, or any of its leaders, are behind the planned nationwide protest against bad governance in the country. The party described the claims as "delusional" and "the author's figment of his imagination."
In a statement released on Saturday by Obiora Ifoh, the party's publicity secretary, the LP stated that it is not known for being a lawless group, and it is delusional for anyone to link its supporters to the planned protest. The party emphasized that peaceful protests are initiated and executed by the people, not by the opposition.
The LP also pointed out that popular protests are a direct registration of the people's frustration against the government, citing examples from Kenya, Egypt, and other countries. The party noted that the opposition has the right to protest, and it is within their constitutional right.
The Labour Party advised the presidency to caution its aides against making incendiary pronouncements capable of combusting the nation, all in the name of playing politics.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has accused supporters of Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, of being behind the planned protests across the country. Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made the claim in a statement on social media.
Onanuga alleged that the same group of individuals who were instigated by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to launch the destructive ENDSARS protest in 2020 are now planning to stage nationwide protests under the guise of "EndBadGovernance" and "Tinubu Must Go." The Presidency described the protesters as "anarchists" and "bad losers" who are unable to wait for the next election in 2027.
Onanuga warned that their actions amount to high treason and called on security agents to interrogate the individuals involved.
